Sweet Stacey Kent

Had a cheap and good lunch at Tanjong Pagar today (or technically yesterday!), at a coffeeshop near my alteration tailor. It was the last work lunch with Phyllis and we had a mixed wanton mee comprising sliced chicken, 3 fried wantons, 3 soup wantons and some charsiew…just $4!

Also splurged on 4 nail polishes, will have blue nails for Samui!

The annual Mosaic Music Festival kicked off today with a concert by jazz singer Stacey Kent and it was a ladies evening out with Swana, Monica, Rachel and Yvonne.

We had dinner at Thai Express first, but there was nothing express about it! The latecomers among the group who ordered their food a good 30 mins after me and Swana got their food first so I think our first order was not keyed into the system and whenever we asked to checked, the staff kept saying it was coming.

My food eventually arrived with 15 mins left till our showtime and I had to gobble it down. The manager was quite apologetic after Rachel made a fuss and they didn’t charge for a couple of dishes.

Got to our seats in the nick of time and sat through a soothing evening of jazz classics and some original tunes by the very sweet Ms Kent. She was so chirpy and gushy…too nice! Her voice was crystal clear and the acoustics were good, it was like listening to a CD.

She did an autograph signing session after. I was quite surprised to see a lot of young people in their 20s…I guess it was a good date night activity. We had pretty good seats in the foyer circle area even though they were the cheapest category. Plus a complimentary glass of champagne thanks to Swana using her Visa Signature card.

After the show, we walked along the river in search of a place to have drinks. The Merlion had been transformed into a multicolour beast thanks to the iLight festival which also started today.

We ended up at Prelude at the top of Waterboat House, had one quick drink before Kevin came to pick me and Swana up. The dopes watched a movie at Vivo while I met up with some ex-Misys staff who were out karaoke-ing at the PartyWorld there.

Had a quick catch up with Sher Vin and Serene, and Nick also joined us for a bit when he came to pick me up. We didn’t sing of course!
