It would seem we've survived the 7 year itch, as yesterday we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. Ok, maybe celebrate is not the word because we didn't actually spend it together.
He had to entertain colleagues for a post-NATAS thank-you dinner while the rest of us celebrated Aunty Sarda's 72nd birthday at the folks' house. Nat and Gigi were again on hand to help with the candles!

Nick came home just as Nat fell asleep, bringing me a single red rose. I was secretly pleased because I wasn't counting on any flowers. Never mind that he had swiped it from one of the new office's congratulatory floral stands - something he confessed after I wondered aloud why the base of the stalk was so grainy. At least he spent time to pick the nicest one, or so he claimed.

We had a belated dinner today, even though we had initially said we would celebrate in the Maldives with no gift exchanges. Think he felt guilty for being M.I.A the past few days and missing dinner with me on the actual day.
He was in a meaty mood and we agreed to check out Lawry's, partly because it's located at the Mandarin Hotel where we held our wedding dinner so it would have been nostalgic. However, when I asked for feedback via a FB status update, I heard negative things from friends who knew people who dined there recently. I told him about it and he decided on Morton's Steakhouse instead.
I managed to get a last minute 6.30pm reservation and rushed down after work. It was dark and noisy, he was there before me, along with a huge onion bread roll. We had a server named Raj who 'presented' the menu to us, explaining the different cuts of meat available and showed samples of their gigantic vegetables. Everything was up-sized in the restaurant!

As we were perusing the menu, Raj produced a customised menu for us to keep as a souvenir, one with 'Happy 8th anniversary' printed on it after he found out what we were celebrating. That was a nice touch.

I was all psyched to try their crab cakes but my eyes nearly popped out when I saw the prices on the menu. It was $35 for 1 crab cake as an appetizer. They had a main course option at $90+. The steaks started from $85 onwards!
We decided to share a baked seafood platter, substituting the oyster with extra crab cakes. The rest of it consisted of a jumbo prawn and bacon wrapped scallop for each of us. The crab cakes were full of crab lumps though, and so fresh...not the canned or frozen type. It was all crab, hardly any flour. I was a happy camper.

He had an onion soup, it was good and hearty. And how can you go to Morton's and not eat steak? We shared a ribeye, they did his half medium well, and mine well done. I don't normally eat steaks, in fact this was my first time actually ordering one as a main but it was worth it. Grilled to perfection, and well-seasoned that I didn't need any sauces.

We ordered a side of fries ($17) as the meats did not come with any accompaniments. But in the end we were too full and doggy bagged the fries and bread roll, or perhaps I should call it a loaf!

Nick had pre-ordered a warm chocolate cake before I arrived and it was meant to be a surprise but the waiter let the cat out of the bag when he was confirming our order. It came with a candle and again, giant portion. One of the staff members came to take a picture of us and a few minutes later, she presented us the photo framed in a folder with all the staff's signatures.
I must say service was definitely excellent and personalized, except now I have 2 souvenirs i.e. the menu and the photo with 2nd March on it, when our anniversary is the 1st.

Towards the end, the restaurant manager came to check on things and commented we had nice tans. He then stumped me by asking if we had come back from the Maldives recently. How could he have guessed? He said he had a 6th sense, I believe it!
The final bill wasn't as bad as I expected, he paid about $260 in all as the dessert was complimentary and so was his Coke. Stomachs full, we ended the evening with the movie 'No Strings Attached' at Marina Square. A good day indeed!
