Ann Siang and Anne Hathaway.
Today we kicked off a series of 'alphabet' dates, 26 outings for the year revolving around an alphabet each fortnight. I can't take credit for the idea, read something to this effect in a novel a couple of years ago titled Alphabet Dates and been meaning to plan my own.
I think most couples would pick an alphabet at random and plan activities around that letter for date nights, but I'm going in sequence.
I have plans from A-Z but after today, I think I better let Nick plan some so he feels involved and at the same time doesn't complain too much when things don't meet his expectations, as was the case today.
Originally I had intended to have dinner at Stellar, the A being for altitude but he had an event last night so at the last minute I changed to Ann Siang Hill/Road, having passed an interesting cafe called Shots when I went to collect Rachel's cake from the Patissier on Thursday. And since Love and Other Drugs was screening, I decided to loop Anne Hathaway in.
In the morning he brought Nat for a trial gym session at Marina Square while I brought Sasha for her 9th month developmental assessment (everything's normal, phew!). Had lunch at Suntec, tried a Malaysian prawn mee that was quite peppery.

After lunch, we dropped the kids at Membina and stopped by Great World to buy the movie tickets first before heading to Shots at Ann Siang Hill to have coffee. From the moment he saw the queue inside the cafe, I think he was a little turned off already...I had no idea they were pretty crowded on weekends but we found a table outdoors immediately and I only waited in line for less than a minute.

He requested a savoury snack, I ordered bruschetta because we just had lunch and I thought it was light enough as compared to pasta, pizza or a sandwich. But his face fell when I told him what I ordered, he's not a fan of tomatoes on bread, although I was quite pleased with it!

The coffee ordered was also a little slow in coming to the table, plus no cutlery or napkins were provided until requested, so that got his goat. Thereafter he was a veritable grump, didn't help that his coffee was mediocre - diluted in fact! He later cited tiredness as an excuse for his boorish behaviour but it was too late, the date was ruined because I was feeling bummed that he didn't like anything about the place.
Since conversation was not forthcoming, I just occupied myself by taking pictures of the coffee cups and street scenes and when finished, took a short walk around part of the neighbourhood to snap some more pictures, while he hung in the background. I might as well have been alone! Not quite how I expected to spend the afternoon but for some reason, he just couldn't relax.

The movie was alright only, not quite rom-com, a bit boring at times. Nick said he would plan the next date but I already have reservations at a hard-to-get-a-table restaurant for B so I offered him C instead. There goes the champagne brunch I had in mind, it was either that or char kway teow!
Went back to Membina after the movie, the Jayanandans came over with bubs in tow and all 6 female second cousins were in the house! Swana made salad and pasta, the 4 older girls played hide & seek and statue dance and had fun screaming and laughing their heads off.
