Recipe: Spaghetti Bolognaise (Simplified)

This is the version I made on Nat's 1st birthday...

Spaghetti Bolognaise (Simplified Version)

1 packet of spaghetti, boiled and drained
4-6 tbsp of butter or olive oil
700gm of minced beef
2 large bottles of Prego Traditional Sauce - Mushroom flavour
2 tbsp of tomato paste
1 large onion, chopped
1 tomato, cut into 8
1 carrot, chopped
2-3 stalks of celery, chopped finely
2 bay leaves
A pinch of mixed Italian herbs
1/2 tsp of salt
1-2 tsp of black pepper

  1. Heat the oil or butter in a large saucepan or stockpot and add the onions, stirring until they soften. Add the minced beef and mix well until the beef starts turning brown.

  2. Add the carrots and celery and mix until the beef is cooked, ensuring that the mince does not stick together. Add 1/2 tsp of black pepper and throw in the bay leaves and herbs. Add the bottled tomato sauce, chopped tomatoes and tomato paste and stir well. Let it simmer, covered, for 30 mins, stirring occasionally.

  3. After 30 mins, taste the sauce and add more pepper and some salt if desired. When satisfied, turn off the heat. Serve over a bed of cooked spaghetti and garnish with grated parmesan.

Serves 6-8
